Hill-Murray forward Jake Guentzel, son of Gopher assistant coach and former assistant coach with the University of Nebraska-Omaha, has committed to play his college hockey for the Mavericks of UNO. Guentzel collected 23g-52a-75pts in 31 games in 2011-2012 leading the Pioneers to a second place finish at the state tournament. A likely Mr. Hockey candidate if he were to stay at Hill-Murray, Guentzel will lace up the skates for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. No confirmation yet, but my guess is he will head to UNO after next season, pending his performance in the USHL. With teammate Blake Heinrich also heading to Sioux City, Hill-Murray will have some big roles to fill, but with 75 points in his junior campaign, the USHL could be the best option for his development before heading to UNO.
